What’s New in iOS 12.3

Hot on the heels of the release of iOS 12.2 last month, Apple seeded the first beta of iOS 12.3 as well. The company has since then gone ahead and dropped two more beta releases of iOS 12.3 as well. Unlike iOS 12.2, iOS 12.3 is a minor update that focuses primarily on upgrading the Apple TV app.

With the Apple TV+ slated for a fall launch, it is not surprising to see Apple focusing on improving the TV app with an upcoming iOS 12 release. Apart from an overhauled Apple TV app though, iOS 12.3 also packs a number of other changes. Read below to find out.
What’s New in iOS 12.3
New TV App

As mentioned above, the TV app in iOS is receiving a major update with iOS 12.3 update. It is being updated to add support for Apple TV Channels which will allow users to subscribe to third-party streaming services directly from within the app. The upgraded TV app will also be available in more parts of the world compared to the existing app. Some supported channels include CBS All Access, Starz, Showtime, HBO, Mubi, and more.

The new app will make use of machine learning to provide TV show and movie recommendations to users.

The TV Remote app in iOS 12 will gain a new icon with the iOS 12.3 update.
Detailed Transaction History in Wallet App

The Wallet app is also getting an upgrade as a part of the iOS 12.3 update. It will show detailed transaction history instead of just listing the last few transactions like it currently does. Apple is making this change ahead of the release of Apple Card later this year.
iOS 12.3 Release Date

Apple is widely expected to release iOS 12.3 in May ahead of WWDC 2019 in June. iOS 12.3 is going to be the last major release of iOS 12 as post WWDC, Apple will only be focusing on iOS 13 which is expected to come with some major new features. Like every year, iOS 13 will be released for all compatible iPhones and iPads in the second half of September.

Apple Music ‘For You’ Section Offering New Recommendations Based on Themes

Apple Music is still, technically, a fledgling service with a lot of room to grow. One of the areas that it can certainly improve upon is recommendations, based on suggestions, past listening, and “likes”. Themes can also be a nice way to offer up customized playlists, and, according to a new report, that’s exactly what’s happening now.

9to5Mac is reporting on Monday that Apple Music’s “For You” section, the area that deals with customized playlists and listening history, is getting theme-based recommendation playlists. According to the publication, the change is happening now, but, as is par for the course, it will be a gradual rollout. Which means if you don’t see the recommendations based on themes yet, you should here in the coming weeks.

There are new categories, including “Case of the Mondays”. But, what should really stand out, are new recommended playlists based on artists you’ve previously listened to. There are other categories, including “To Make You Smile” as well. If you prefer to get recommendations based on genres, that’s rolling out as part of this update as well.

Perhaps the best news of all is that Apple reportedly plans on updating the “For You” section much more frequently than it has in the past. The idea is to get even more content in the section, so you can keep finding and loving new music.

And as usual, keep “liking” and “disliking” music as it pops up, that way the music streaming platform can continue to learn your tastes and build upon that.

It was recently reported that, despite being relatively new on the scene, Apple Music had passed Spotify in terms of paid subscribers in the United States.

This is incredibly good news. Ever since switching full-time to Apple Music the service has definitely gotten better about recommendations, but more is always a good thing, and it means even more of an opportunity to tweak the platform based on an individual’s tastes.

To set a timer on your iPhone:


Open the Clock app.


Tap the Timer tab in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Scroll the clock wheels to set the timer length by the hour, minute, and second.




Tap When Timer Ends to select an alert sound.


Tapping on the name of an alert sound will play a sample of that sound.


If you choose Stop Playing instead of an alert sound, whatever music or other media you are listening to will stop when the timer ends. Learn more about this feature here.

Now that you've set the timer duration and chosen an alert sound, you're ready to set a timer.


Tap Start to begin the countdown.




You can tap Pause for the timer at any time.


Tap Resume to start the timer where it left off.

Apple Updates Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, and iMovie

Apple today updated a number of its video-related Mac apps, including Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, and iMovie. Most of the updates are minor in scale, focusing on bug fixes and under-the-hood performance improvements.




For all four apps, Apple has added a feature that detects media files that could be incompatible with future versions of macOS after Mojave. In Final Cut Pro and iMovie, these files will be converted to a compatible format, while just highlighted in Motion and Compressor.






Apple is phasing out support for 32-bit Mac apps after Mojave, which is why this new feature has been introduced. All three software updates also include improved reliability when sharing video to YouTube.




In Final Cut Pro, Apple has also added a number of bug fixes, with the release notes listed below:

- Detects media files that may be incompatible with future versions of macOS after Mojave and converts them to a compatible format

- Fixes an issue that could cause share destinations to disappear from the share menu after quitting Final Cut Pro

- Fixes an issue that could cause the workflow extension button to disappear when resizing the interface

- Fixes an issue in which the Select Clip command could incorrectly select the clip beneath the playhead

- Fixes an issue in which a successful share notification appears after the share operation was cancelled

- Fixes an issue in which frames saved to the frame browser in the Comparison Viewer may appear differently than they do in the viewer

- Fixes an issue in which frequency information for Hum Removal may not be visible in the audio inspector

- Fixes an issue in which relinked media may appear with black thumbnails in the browser and timeline

- Fixes an issue in which the share menu may be obscured behind the viewer when using Final Cut Pro in fullscreen mode

- Improves reliability when sharing video to YouTube

What to Do When You Can’t Delete Songs from iTunes

Tip 1. Delete Songs from iTunes via iTunes
